Down to Cook

The Spring 2026 session will be in April/May beginning on April 14th and going through May 14th. There are 3 different volunteer opportunities:

TUESDAYS 6:00-7:00 PM for participants 13 and older

THURSDAYS 5:00-6:00 PM for participants 12 and under

THURSDAYS 6:30–7:30 PM for participants 13 and older

*We encourage volunteers to sign up for all weeks if possible

Volunteers are encouraged to arrive 15 minutes early and stay a few minutes after for cleanup and transitions. No cooking experience is required—just a positive attitude, patience, and a willingness to support participants as they explore new skills. This is a great opportunity to make meaningful connections, gain experience in adaptive programming, and have fun in the kitchen!

ICan Swim Camp

ICan Swim Camp is a week-long adaptive swim program hosted by Coastal BUDS in partnership with certified adaptive aquatics instructors from ICan Shine and the YWCA Lower Cape Fear. Tailored for individuals with Down syndrome and other intellectual or developmental disabilities, the program focuses on teaching essential water safety and independent swimming skills in a supportive, inclusive, and fun environment. Each participant is paired one-on-one with a trained volunteer to ensure consistent encouragement and personalized support throughout the week. Volunteers assist both in the pool and behind the scenes during daily one-hour sessions. In addition to hands-on experience, volunteers will have the opportunity to pursue an Adaptive Aquatics Instructor Certification during the week, expanding their skill set and impact.
